Equipment
You can rent a kayak including paddle, spray deck, buoyancy aid and helmet. We will select a suitable kayak for you, but you can indicate your preference as well. You can rent a wetsuit separately and it is possible to rent a tent.
Extra's
- You can use a neoprene spray deck for free.
- You can hire a lightweight professional paddle.
Whitewater kayak We use first class equipment, existing of a polyethylene whitewater kayak, paddle, spray deck, buoyancy aid, helmet and waterproof cask or bag. We highly recommend that you wear a neoprene wetsuit. You can rent one with us.
Surf kayak We use first class equipment, existing of a polyethylene sit-on-top kayak or whitewater kayak, paddle, spray deck, buoyancy aid and helmet. You can also participate with your own kayak and kit. Your equipment should be suitable for that particular course and must be equipped with sufficient buoyancy (air bags). We highly recommend that you wear a neoprene wetsuit. You can rent one with us.
Your own kayak
If you’re bringing your own kayak and/or equipment, it will have to meet certain requirements. You’re responsible for the suitability and condition of the equipment yourself.
Freestyle kayaks Make sure your boat matches the course level, the grade of the water and your own ability. A small rodeo boat could be unsuitable for bigger water. If you’re having trouble keeping the boat upright in the rapids, there will be hardly time to learn anything new. If you’re the happy owner of both a whitewater and a rodeo kayak, just bring them both if in doubt.
The kayak equipment
Wildwater kayak A white water kayak must have sufficient buoyancy (air bags) in both front and back, so the boat will stay afloat even if the water fills the boat completely. The front and the back need to have solid grab loops.
Freestyle kayak A freestyle kayak must have as much buoyancy as possible in the back (air bags or foam blocks) and if there is space also in the front. Both the back and front must be equipped with a solid grab loop.
Paddle A paddle should not have sharp edges or components that stick out of the blades.
Spray deck A spray deck has to be equipped with a good emergency loop to pull the deck off the kayak.
Buoyancy aid A buoyancy aid must be solid and well fitting. The vest may not tear apart or slide off your body in case you have to be lifted by one of the shoulder straps. If you have a harness and towing system, it needs to have a quick release buckle.
Helmet The helmet must be CE approved and appropriately fit your head.
Wetsuit A wetsuit doesn’t only keep the cold out, but also protects against bumping during –unintended- swimming and is very useful if you’re setting up safety for a rapid.
Neoprene shoes Good footwear is very important. During a course you’ll often find yourself on impassable banks and riverbeds, and shoes will also provide protection during swims.
Waterproof bag or cask For bringing your lunch and other belongings you can bring a waterproof bag or cask. Our waterproof casks are often too big for small boats.
Throw bag/River-knife/first aid kit/split paddle All of this gear belongs to the standard equipment of our instructors. If you own some of these things, bring them along.
